Scientific Internships

Tomsk Polytechnic University is one of the greatest scientific and educational centres of Russia. It includes a number of research institutions: 3 Research Institutes (Nuclear Physics, High Voltages, Introscopy), Cybernetic Centre, 62 research laboratories and 5 research centres at the Departments.

The number of research and teaching staff members carrying out and providing scientific investigations and developments is about 2,000. Almost half of them are Ds.Sc. and Ph.Ds.

The University is supplied with modern computers, precise measuring and diagnostic equipment and a unique set of electrophysical installations allowing to fulfill fundamental and applied investigations in the area of nuclear physics, accelerated and high voltage engineering, material research, medicine, etc. They are: a research nuclear reactor, an electronic synchrotron, cyclotron, electrostatic generator, a complex of betatrons, high current accelerators, high voltage laboratory and others.

Procedure of Admission to Apprenticeship of Foreign Citizens at TPU

  1. Foreign citizens are admitted to apprenticeship on the basis of international treaties and agreements and straight by connection with foreign enterprises, institutions and organizations.

  2. Identification Card of an applicant includes the following papers in Russian (English or French):At their discretion foreign citizens can be trained in accordance with their own apprenticeship plan.

    • an application with a full name of the main subject;
    • a duplicate of the educational document;
    • medical test confirmed by authorized health agency of a residence country;
    • passport duplicate;
    • four photos with sizes 4x6;
    • receipt of an entrance deposit payment (payment is $25).
  3. Apprenticeship training payment is $300-400 per month (in accordance with the chosen research direction and usage of equipment, computers etc.).

  4. Entrance deposit should be paid to the account of Tomsk Polytechnic University.

  5. Duration of training up to 3 months.

  6. The applicant’s age is not significant.



  1. Off-Campus Accommodation:

    If you choose to rent a room and enjoy the hospitality of the Russian home, you will be given lists of bed-sitters and flats currently available and provided guidance on the possible pitfalls involved in renting. We very carefully select the families for our students, paying special attention to cleanness, comfort and location of the house. At your request you can share a room with another postgraduate student. Approximate payment is $80 per month.

  2. University Campus Dormitory:

    The Student Affairs Officer will take care of your leisure time, not allow you to miss any party or University sports activities. Approximate payment for single room is $150 per month, sharing room is $100 per month.

  3. Down Town Hotel:

    If you do not wish to stay on campus or rent a room, there are two star hotels, located 15 minutes drive from the University. One bed room apartment will cost you $60 per day, double bed room is $80 per day.

  4. Board:

    There is a complex of canteens and cafes both in the educational buildings and in dormitories. Approximate payment is about $70 per month.
